Services:
Friday, February 12                                    6:00 p.m.       Shabbat Service.  Sermon “What the Torah Teaches us about Pro-Choice.”  Cantor Mark Opatow                           will be with us.

Saturday, February 13                                9:30 a.m.      Congregational Breakfast prior to Shabbat Service.
10:30 a.m.    Shabbat Morning Service.  Cantor Mark Opatow will be with us.

Friday, February 19                                    6:00 p.m.       Shabbat Service.  Sermon “Pure on the Outside and In.”

 

Religious School –  Friday, February 26, 5:00-6:00 p.m. with Purim/Shabbat  Services following class.  Dinner following services.  Will not meet again until Sunday, March 7, 9:45 a.m.  

Adult Hebrew School – Will not meet again until Sunday, March 7, 9:00 – 9:45 a.m.

Hebrew School – Will not meet next week, but will resume on Wednesday, February 24, 4:00 pm.

Torah Study with Rabbi Kunstadt 
Wednesday, February 17, at 6:00 p.m., in the Temple Library. 

 

1  Justice Aharon Barak visit a huge success
Former Chief Justice of Israel, Aharon Barak visited Springhill Avenue Temple this past Friday, February 5.  It was a historic event for our congregation, as His Honor discussed a variety of issues, concerns, and policies in Israel and other democratic countries. 

 

1An Evening of Special Music with the Greater Mobile Bay Choral Society
Saturday, February 20, 7:00 p.m., at Springhill Avenue Temple.  
Enjoy the combined voices of 50 members of the GMBCS as they present music reflective of Shabbat, High Holy Days, and Hanukkah services and celebrations.  They will be joined by members of the Adult Choir of Touro Synagogue of New Orleans and will be accompanied by a small orchestra. 
This event is free and open to the public.

1A Groovy Purim Celebration!  Friday, February 26
Following Shabbat services.  Wear your funkiest outfit – tie dyes, Birkenstocks, Grateful Dead t-shirts, whatever!  Rock out to the megillah – Beatles style!  Catered dinner, $12 for cool cats, $6 for younger hippies (under 10).  Call the Temple Office to RSVP.

 

1Temple Bazaar/Yard Sale, Saturday, February 27
Bring all your “gently used” stuff to the Temple NOW for our Temple-Wide Bazaar and yard sale to be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010, 7:00 a..m. – 3:00 p.m. We will provide you with a receipt for your donated items.  Call the office when you want to come by; if you need assistance with heavier items, let us know and we can arrange to have someone help you.

Passover Chocolate!!
SHAFTY, our Temple Youth Group, is selling Kosher for Passover Chocolates!  Please help support our Temple Teenagers by ordering some Chocolate Matzos or Macaroons for your Seder!  See attached order form or visit www.misschocolate.com to view Chocolate! Orders are due February 25, 2010, and will be available for pick up before Passover, which begins Tuesday, March 30, 2010!  Order form is attached!

Cory Garfunkel recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He continues to be a scout with Troop 28 working presently towards Palm awards.
